We offer full-service interior design, space planning, interior architecture, and custom furniture design. Every designer on staff has the knowledge, experience and credentials to take on any size project – from a 900 sq. ft. downtown apartment to a 15,000 sq. foot home to a cottage beach house to a cabin in the mountains and everything in between. We have delivered projects all over the country concentrating mainly in the northeast but as far as the Turks & Caicos islands, Naples Florida, Bucks County Pennsylvania. Our goal, no matter the size of the project, is to make the process as easy and seamless as possible for you.

We have served Northern New Jersey and New York City for over 20 years.

In our 7000 square foot show room located on Main Street in historic Madison, New Jersey we showcase settings with a curated selection of furniture, floor coverings, lighting and decor highlighting classic and modern lifestyles.

Our Designers


Nina Karamallis

Nina, the owner and principal interior designer at British Home Emporium, has been a home furnishings design professional for over 25 years. She started her firm, Karanina Designs to specialize in residential interiors, visual merchandising and editorial photo styling. Her sensibility marries traditional elegance with contemporary design.
 
Nina has created interiors for clients in New Jersey and Atlanta, Georgia. Some of her close friends who became her first “clients” include the CEO of Auto Zone, Senior Executives of Polo Ralph Lauren and several Coca Cola Executives. She has also served as the showroom designer for Mottahedeh & Co, Inc., the prestigious creators of porcelain museum reproductions for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Charleston, Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Winterthur Museum. Nina’s photo styling is represented in the book, From Drawing Board to Dining Table, by Wendy Kvalheim, president and CEO of Mottahedeh.
 
Nina works with clients personally and in collaboration with other design and architectural firms. She has worked with HIT, the architecture and interior design company known for its fine residences in New Vernon, New Jersey.  
 
Nina received her B.A. in Art History, and B.F.A. in Fine Arts, and studied Interior Design at Parsons School of Design. She began her career in high school assisting her mother, Head Interior Designer for Bloomingdales and Greenbaums. Hired by Bloomingdales as the Assistant Fashion Coordinator in Home Furnishings she was responsible for special events, creating celebrity table settings, and product development. She enjoyed opportunities to work with celebrities like Pauline Trigere and Wally Amos, inventor of Famous Amos cookies. Creative floor presentations in the flagship store led her to the position of Display Director of Conran’s US. She developed floor plans and supervised the opening of twelve new stores, while directing the visual merchandising of existing stores.

Nina Karamallis

Jihan Tannous

Jihan designs and manages our custom wood works. Her training as both an interior architect and interior designer enables her to design the custom cabinetry and furniture within her design concept for the entire room. Jihan has served as an interior designer in Morris County New Jersey for over 20 years. She graduated as an interior architect from the University Saint Esprit-Kaslik (U.S.E.K.) in Beirut, Lebanon. In addition, Jihan holds a Graphic Arts degree from the College Central. Jihan brings her experience as an interior designer, Artist and Manager to British Home Emporium. She is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

Utilizing tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUP and Photoshop, Aileen applies both computer and hand rendering techniques to produce quality presentations. Aileen designs rooms that are rooted in classic design, combining both traditional and modern furniture pieces with a youthful and fresh approach.

Her rooms incorporate a mixture of materials including metals, stone, mirror and wood elements and integrate a variety of textures through upholstery fabrics, rugs and window treatments. Her rooms strike a balance between pattern play and bold accents of color.

Aileen believes a room should be aesthetically pleasing, functional and comfortable and most importantly a reflection of the personalities and interests of the homeowners.

Valerie Matthews

Valerie comes to interior design from the world of fashion. A former model, Valerie joined the Estee Lauder Corporation in 1980 as Mrs. Lauder’s Executive Assistant. Mrs. Lauder sought perfection, and Valerie rose to the challenge. These experiences showcased Valerie’s talents to a new audience who began requesting her interior design skills for their homes and offices. To hone her skills Valerie decided to go back to school for formal interior design training, and in 1999, she unveiled her first interior design studio.

Whether you desire to retreat to an intimate salon or create a warm inviting custom kitchen for family gatherings, Valerie is available to share her design talent, product knowledge and enthusiasm to make your dream home come true.
